Lung Surgery
Overview
Dr. Ilies Bouabdallah
One of the challenges of the thoracic surgeon today is in choosing the right intervention and the right path first according to each patient condition. To help us, 3D reconstruction is extremely valuable, as it makes it possible to check whether, oncologically, the planned excision is optimal and safe.
In this video Dr. Bouabdallah discusses how he uses these tools to perform minimally invasive techniques, by developing parenchymal sparing and the place of radical segmentectomy for those small lesions.
Prof. Ikeda
It is very important to achieve the highest possible safety in lung cancer operation, especially in VATS. We extensively employed SYNAPSE 3D for the simulation and navigation during surgery. I believe it is very helpful to improve our procedures and safety.
In this video Professor Ikeda demonstrates how easy it can be for surgeons without special training to simulate a 3D CT with SYNASPE 3D.
Dr. Leschber
In patients that have small tumors we can also perform, not a complete lobectomy but a segment of resection of the lung. With the help of Synapse 3D, we can have critical information about where the vessels are going, like the pulmonary artery branches or the branches of the vein, and we can exactly plan the operation in order to find out which segment should be resected. We can also tell if there is only one segment or more than one segment that needs to be resected. So these are just some of the many valuable uses of SYNAPSE 3D.
Lung Analysis Resection
Lung Analysis Resection
- CT surgical planning tools, help plan sub-lobectomy’s based on individual characteristics of the bronchi, pulmonary arteries, and pulmonary veins.
- It is also features the ability to superimpose SPECT images to help better plan postoperative lung function considerations.

Lung Analysis Scope
Lung Analysis Scope
- Virtual Scope functionality provides on demand virtual broncho scope images, automatically display lymph nodes, which helps guide targets.
- Advanced simulation capabilities for VAL-MAP procedures help to precisely identify tumor position during resections; a particularly valuable tool during sublobular resection procedures.
